*Many have been interested in this class being broken down into smaller sections of time. I have created a 4 day class. Please see my listing if you have a younger learner. Students will be learn to identify a penny, a nickel, a dime, a quarter and a one dollar bill. Students will learn the value of each coin and bill and practice counting with Mario up to $1.00. I use google slides throughout my teaching. Students will learn fun songs to help them recall the value of each coin and identifying characteristics of each coin. During lesson, the main focus will be identifying each coin and counting coins in small amounts. They will identify various ways they can reach each amount. This course is designed for a second grade student, but younger students are welcome if you feel they are ready. (Please see my note below.) I recommend a basic understanding of counting by 1s, 5s, 10s, and possibly 25s. Please note: This class is a one time class. There is a lot of information to cover in 50 minutes. We go at a fast pace. I also have a four day class covering the same material, but at a much slower pace. If your child is brand new to identifying and counting coins, I HIGHLY recommend you take the four day course. *Please note: This is not an interactive Mario game. My slides include pictures of Mario and other characters from the games.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome! My name is Rebecca Lockhart. I have my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and I am a certified teacher for grades K-8. I have taught all subjects in the public schools, ESL (English as a Second Language) online, and I currently homeschool my three children ages 5-11. I also teach a Nature Studies course in my area and facilitate two book clubs on a weekly basis.
I began my teaching career nineteen years ago. It is difficult for me to narrow down my favorite subjects. I just enjoy teaching. I guess if I had to peg down a few, my favorite subjects would include grammar, reading, math, and history. I started my own book club over six years ago to feed my love of consuming books. I recently began a book club for my oldest child and several of her friends to help them find great novels and learn skills to help increase their reading ability, comprehension and enjoyment. I love to write. Many call me a grammar nerd. I have dreams of being an author when I grow up. ;) Math is a skill I am passionate about. I believe a solid foundation early on can really help a learner succeed in math the rest of their life. I am also passionate about Nature Study and learning about the world around us. I believe, in a world full of technology, that it is essential and very beneficial for students to get outdoors and observe the world around them.
I have been teaching online since spring of 2019 and I joined Outschool in the summer of 2020.
I enjoy meeting students from all around the globe. Once you have been in my class, you will realize I'm upbeat, maybe a little silly at times, but I am excited to get my students to learn and most importantly love learning.
I hope to see your child soon!
