Week 1 - Microsoft Word In this lesson students will learn how to: Format text with fonts and colors; Use bullets and indents; Customize the Quick Access Toolbar, Insert pictures and screenshots; Set up page layout for margins and printing; Impress your boss and colleagues with your super-sharp Word skills Lesson 1. Introduction to Word Processing ◾In this lesson, students will practice identifying parts of a document and explore drop-down menus and icons. Lesson 2. Creating and Saving a Document ◾In this lesson, students will practice creating and saving their first document. Lesson 3. Typing and Selecting Text ◾In this lesson, students will practice typing and selecting text on their page. Lesson 4. Copying and Pasting Text ◾In this lesson, students will practice using shortcut keys to cut, copy, and paste text on a page. Lesson 5. Formatting Font ◾In this lesson, students will practice changing the way their text looks on the page. Lesson 6. Aligning Text ◾In this lesson, students will practice aligning text on the page. Lesson 7. Creating Lists ◾In this lesson, students will create a bulleted and numbered list. Lesson 8. Proofing a Document ◾In this lesson, students will practice proofreading their document using the Spelling, Grammar, and Thesaurus tools. Lesson 9. Creating Tables ◾In this lesson, students will practice creating and entering text into a table. Lesson 10. Inserting Images ◾In this lesson, students will practice using the Internet to add images on their page. Activity - Students will create a Microsoft word document to upload to the Outschool classroom to share and collaborate with the class. Week 2 - PowerPoint In this lesson students will learn how to: Use themes and layouts; Add audio visual components; Add animations and transitions Print, reuse and copy slides; Use morph and 3D; Deliver an engaging presentation Lesson 1: Introduction to Presentations ◾In this lesson, students will practice identifying parts of a presentation and explore drop-down menus and icons Lesson 2: Creating and Saving a Presentation ◾In this lesson, students will create and save their first presentation. Lesson 3: Entering Text on a Slide ◾In this lesson, students will practice adding new slides and entering text on a slide. Lesson 4: Formatting Text ◾In this lesson, students will change the size, color, and alignment of text. Lesson 5: Adding Transitions and Notes ◾In this lesson, students will add transitions between slides and enter notes to use when presenting. Lesson 6: Using Themes ◾In this lesson, students will create a new presentation and apply a design theme. Lesson 7: Changing Slide Background & Working with WordArt ◾In this lesson, students will change the background color of the slides and create WordArt. Lesson 8: Working with Shapes ◾In this lesson, students will add shapes to a slide and change their sizes and color. Lesson 9: Working with Images ◾In this lesson, students will insert images into a presentation. Lesson 10: Animating Text and Shapes ◾In this lesson, students will use animations to make text boxes and shapes move on a slide. Activity - Students will create a PowerPoint presentation to upload to the classroom. Week 3 - Excel In this lesson students will learn: How to understand the difference between formulas and functions; How to calculate and simplify data with functions like AVERAGE, SUM, COUNTIF and TODAY; How to apply cell formatting that makes data visually appealing; How to use dynamic conditional formatting to make critical information stand out; How to manage workbooks, including how to rename, add, delete, move and copy sheets ;How to group, sort, and filter to quickly organize your data; How to easily transform numerical data into visual charts and graphs; How to gain the confidence and skills to go from zero to Excel hero! Lesson 1: Introduction to Spreadsheets ◾In this lesson, students will practice identifying parts of a spreadsheet and explore drop-down menus and icons. Lesson 2: Creating and Saving a Spreadsheet ◾In this lesson, students will practice creating and saving their first spreadsheet. Lesson 3: Entering and Editing Data ◾In this lesson, students will practice typing and selecting text on their page. Lesson 4: Formatting Cells ◾In this lesson, students will format cells and change the size and style of the font. Lesson 5: Merging and Aligning Cells ◾In this lesson, students will use merge and center and change the alignment of text in cells. Lesson 6: Using Number Formats ◾In this lesson, students will change the numbers within a cell to Percent and Currency. Lesson 7: Using a Spreadsheet as a Calculator ◾In this lesson, students will use formulas to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers. Lesson 8: Working with Functions ◾In this lesson, students will use functions to work with a range of cells. Lesson 9: Sorting Data ◾In this lesson, students will sort information in a spreadsheet. Lesson 10: Creating Charts ◾In this lesson, students will create a column chart and a pie chart. Activity - Students will create a daily schedule using the functions learned in the Excel unit. Week 4 - Outlook In this lesson students will learn to using Outlook to help manage email, appointments, tasks, and contacts in a single program. Students will learn to save, sort, organize, and read email messages. Set appointments along with reminders, so you'll never miss an important date! Store and search through names of important people and their contact information, and create task lists to help you make progress on different projects. Microsoft Outlook will be instructional only, students will NOT be creating an email, social media accounts during this lesson. This is instructional purposes only. Students will send a share a how they will use Outlook to keep organized with the class. No prior knowledge is needed Note to parents: We will be using the free Microsoft Office 365 - Web Based All activities should be upload to the Outschool classroom for sharing and collaboration with our friends in class. How is your class structured? My class is structure to be a stress free, fun, and interactive learning environment to accommodate different learning styles and abilities. How will you teach? I will teach using slide presentation, interactive games and discussion for question and answer sessions. What's your teaching style? I believe that every child learns differently. I do my best to accommodate individual learning styles. NOTE: Students will create a final project of their responsibilities and what they learned in our classroom via video, ppt, slide, etc. How much Interaction will students have with other classmates: Students must communicate and interact with each to successfully make their classroom community economy function. Students must work together and interact with each other to successfully learn how to navigate through the various Microsoft programs. How much interaction will students have with teacher: Students will respond to discussion questions posted in the classroom weekly. Students must respond to at least one of the messages from other students or myself. Students will be ask to share a presentation of their real life experience through a visual presentation using video source, google slides or PPT. Students will need to respond to each students presentation. As always, I will be available for questions and feedback through the classroom and direct messages.
