US Grade 1 - 4
Once upon a time in the East China Sea lived a mermaid unknown to you and me. She sparkled and shone. She swam and played alone until one day....... 1) What will be taught? In this one time class students will be taking an underwater virtual tour and writing a creative writing story about being a mermaid in the East China Sea. I have video available for students to watch from my own underwater diving experiences in the East China Sea. They will see different fish, starfish, coral, and underwater creatures. This video footage will not only give them the opportunity to see what is in the ocean, but afterwards they will get to write a very creative story about being a mermaid. 2) What topics will I cover? I will cover different things that you can see in the East China Sea. I will introduce the worlds dangerous Stone fish and Puffer fish. I will talk about how there are 80 different species of sharks in the East China Sea. I will explain to students what a creative writing story is. I will tell them the different elements that a story needs to be complete. Students will learn how to write an in-depth creative writing piece. 3) How is this class structured? This class is structured by students getting to interact with myself and other students throughout class as we become mermaids and write great stories. Important: This class is designed for students to write about mermaids in the imaginary form. This class does not support mermaids being real or learning real facts about mermaids. Lesson Plan: Beginning- Students will introduce themselves to the class. Next- I will introduce the East China Sea and explain to students that we will be becoming mermaids in class and writing creative writing stories about being a mermaid in the ocean. Next- I will introduce the East China Sea and marine life in it. I will talk about Pufferfish, Stone fish, and the 80 different species of sharks. Next- I will play the footage from my dives for students to see. I will explain to them that I want them to pretend they are a mermaid while watching the video. Next- We will talk about some of the things that they saw and how they might feel if they were a mermaid. Next- I will introduce that it takes a beginning, middle, and end to write a good creative writing story. Next- We will make a story about being a mermaid in the East China Sea together. Then- Students will make their own story about being a mermaid. Last- Students will have an opportunity to read their stories if they would like.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello Everyone!! I have a joke for you.....
What school do you greet people in?......Hi School!:):)
I LOVE teaching! I graduated from West Texas A&M University with my bachelor's degree in elementary education. I have also acquired a masters degree in reading instruction, and am passionate about teaching kids to read. When I graduated college I taught first grade for two years in North Carolina. I have also had the opportunity to teach English online with VIPKID for a couple years. This is an ESL company based in China. This has given me experience with making learning FUN in the online environment. I have lots of tricks up my sleeve. I really enjoy teaching creative writing, so if you are interested in getting your child engaged while writing, I would love to be your teacher:) I also have two precious Corgi's named Peach and Noodle that like to make appearances in my classes as well. Students always look forward to this. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. Thanks so much and I hope to meet you all soon!
