Class Experience
US Grade 4 - 7
For the creative writer, publishing is a top goal. At one point, publishing required literary agents, traditional publishers, and/or paying a vanity publisher. Thanks to the print-on-demand model, writers can publish their own works without going through those extra steps. In this 1:1 class, students will work on writing and polishing their stories to get them published. Students will need to have access to Google docs in order to complete assignments. If students plan on publishing their stories, they will also need to be able to access Microsoft Word and Kindle Direct Publishing. Since this is a tutoring-style class, the weekly schedule will vary depending on what the student is working on and what the parent's request. Included in the price of this class, I will help students edit their work and get it ready for publishing. Lessons may include the following topics: - Genre and tropes - Developing story lines - Outlining your story - Developing characters and creating believable characters - Types of conflict - Setting - Showing, not telling - Dialogue - Research for fiction stories - Literary devices for writing - Editing skills/tips - Formatting the story for publishing - Chicago Style - Making changes based on feedback - Creating the cover - Using Kindle Direct Publishing - Publishing - Marketing
