Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
In this 5 week flex course your students will learn about and meet my various reptiles and amphibians. Each week we will focus on one animal. Your students will learn by written presentations, pictures, videos and trivia questions. Student interaction will vary based on the number of students enrolled and the current knowledge of the students. I will ask various get to know you questions. Some of these questions may be Do you have any pets? What is your favorite animals? I will ask students to post pictures and introduce any pet they may own. Owning a pet is NOT required for this course. I will also ask various trivia and vocabulary questions to see if any students know the answers. An example may be, how many eggs do crested geckos lay at one time. At the end of each week I will introduce my rescues that I own. If the students own the animal we are talking about that week they will also be asked to tell us about theirs. Students are more than welcome to ask questions about the animals we are talking about. Questions can be more about their life in the wild or captivity. They can ask care questions and health questions if they have the animal of the week that they are struggling with or new to. The presentation information will be basic and won't go into a ton of depth, but will touch the surface of the care requirements so students can see if this sounds like the pet for them.
Students will be given crossword puzzles, word scrambles and word search worksheets to tie into what they have learned each week.

Week 1: African Clawed Frogs
Week 2: Sulcata Tortoises
Week 3: Crested Geckos
Week 4: Box turtles of North America
Week 5:Axolotls

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello. I teach a lot of classes about animals and I also teach some reading classes. All of my animal classes are taught about animals that I own.
I love to educate people about animals, animal abuse and neglect. Almost all of my animals come to me as rescues. I like to teach others how to properly care for animals so that the animals can live a long and happy life. Research isn't always reliable as you get different answers in different books and it can be hard to figure out what's best. I am always open to questions. If you are interested in getting a certain pet, just want to learn about different pets or have a pet and want to verify the care is correct, I welcome everyone. I have also trained service dogs and I currently own a trained service dog.
I have taught local classes about the needs of turtles and tortoises, and also community education Sign language classes.
I am a homeschool parent. I have been homeschooling for over 15 years. In our homeschool adventure we use a lot of books and research for learning. We do not use textbooks.
I also have 3 years of college completed. I studied teaching with an emphasis on special education.
