3 in-class hoursClass Experience
During this course, students will explore the defensive architectural design elements in medieval castles, such as arrow slots and murder holes. They will then design and build their own medieval castle and share it with the class. During the first session, students will explore the types and functions of defensive design elements in medieval castles. In the second session, students will share their plans, showing the class their sketch and getting feedback on their design. The third section will be a workroom, where students work on their castles in progress and ask for ideas and help to overcome any construction issues they are experiencing. In the final section, students will present their castle to the class, pointing out all of the defensive design elements they included to keep their subjects safe!
Learning Goals
Students will learn how the architectural design of medieval castles served to defend the people inside from attack.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome to my classroom!
As a veteran teacher, I have taught all of the core subjects and various grade levels. In addition to providing primary instruction in all of the social sciences, I also have a master's degree in special education and have had the opportunity to help students build their skills in reading comprehension, writing, and math. I love science and co-taught biology, physical science, and chemistry for years. Currently, in addition to teaching World History, I coach college students on preparing for professional entry exams. Whatever I am teaching, my hope is to inspire others to stay curious, follow their interests, and build the skills that will open doors to the future they want. I believe the best way to learn is in a fun, social, and engaging atmosphere.
My personal interests include caring for animals (I own a hobby farm, where we raise goats, cows, chickens, ducks, and ponies), cultivating a large vegetable garden, camping with my kids, and traveling. I am fascinated by many topics, including various time periods and events from history, understanding the world through demographic data, and writing - both creatively and objectively.
I look forward to the honor of teaching your child.
Sincerely,
Becky B.
