Let's explore the beauty and wonder of mathematics as it relates to architecture. Math is an integral aspect of architecture, so it shouldn't be daunting for aspiring designers. Learners will not have to do any calculations in this class. Instead they will be introduced to concepts of math in a relaxed, inspiring setting, with hands-on, artistic projects. Math, like nature, and like architecture, is all around us, and it can take on exquisite forms- a beehive, a stunning tiling pattern, the veins in a leaf, or the structure of a highrise. Using some of the tools of architecture (a compass, triangle, ruler and graph paper, etc.) learners will explore geometry and patterns with me and create some wonderful drawings and 3 dimensional models.
Learning Goals
Learn to use a compass, triangle, ruler and graph paper to make patterns and geometric drawings.
Learn how math is involved in designing architecture.
