In this one off, on-line, relaxed and creative class, learn to make, play and a little about the ancient game of Bul which had been played by people in the Mesoamerican regions throughout history.

Class experience

The main learning goal is for students to learn how to make and learn to play the game of Bul. Learners will have the opportunity to practice their design skills inspired by the style of art works created by various peoples who inhabited the Mesoamerican regions throughout history. We will briefly touch on what we mean by the term Mesoamerica. We will chat about what various historians have discovered about the game of Bul and their theories about its use. Learners will have the opportunity to practice their listening and communication skills as they follow my instructions and solve problems if they arise while we make the game. We'll practice a little measuring and do a little counting when scoring the dice rolls. There will be opportunities for writing if learners would like to write their own rules and descriptions of play.
I have been interested in ancient board games and games from around the worlds for about ten years and I have read and reserached them when ever I have the opportunity. I have made various games with groups of children of all different ages and abilities. I find making the games, offers opportunities for all kinds of different types of learning and it's fun.
