Beginner - Intermediate Level
Welcome to a fun and interactive journey into the world of music theory! Over six weeks, we’ll explore MAGIC key musical concepts and joyfully reinforce and master them through conversations, assessments, and the Musicards music theory card game. "MAGIC" stands for Musical Alphabet Generic Intervals and Chromatic scale and half steps Each class begins with a warm welcome and introduction, setting a relaxed and friendly tone. Then, we’ll dive into Musicards games which bring music theory to life. By the end of the course, students will: - Recognize and use the Musical Alphabet confidently. - Understand and identify Generic Intervals. - Navigate the Chromatic Scale and understand Half Steps. - Understand sharps and flats. - Feel confident about foundational music theory concepts and how they connect to real-world music-making. Students will have plenty of time to ask questions, interact, and solidify their understanding through gameplay. To enhance learning, I’ll use visual aids like charts and drawings as helpful references. My teaching style is patient and playful, ensuring every student feels comfortable and confident as they explore these foundational music theory concepts. Whether your child is a budding musician or just curious about how music works, this class will make learning music theory fun and memorable!

Teacher expertise and credentials

Colorado Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
I have used the live, in person version of Musicards with my public school and private lessons students for many years.
I have hosted numerous Musicards "game nights" and events as well.
Participants really enjoy the interactive nature of the program and how they can grow more confident through playing.
I have discovered that focusing on these few foundational concepts makes it much easier for my students to learn every other music theory concept.
Now, with the online version, the experience can be shared by people all over the country and the world!!
