1 hour per week. Between classes, students are encouraged to continue knitting so that they are ready for the next step of the hat-making process. For example, After the first class, students will need to continue knitting until they have about four inches done. Then they will be ready to learn how to make the cuff in the second class.Class Experience
In this three week class, students will learn how to use a circular knitting loom. Students will learn how to make a warm hat during class. Students can use any yarn they want and pick their favorite colors. It is recommended that students use a size 5 or 6 yarn. This class will be structured as a workshop and students will learn how to loom knit step-by-step. Mrs. Borton will demonstrate each step and then help students do each step. Loom knitting is fun and fast! Students will be encouraged to work on their project in between classes so that they can be ready for the next step during the next class. Week 1: Students will learn how to make a slip knot, load yarn on the loom, and how to do the basic stitch. Week 2: Students will learn how to make a cuff on their hat. Week 3: Students will learn how to finish their hat and take the stitches off the circular loom.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to loom knit. Learning this new skill will help students improve their dexterity, fine motor skills, and learn a life-long skill.

Supply List
A circular knitting loom. Usually these come in packages of four to make different sized hats. Mrs. Borton will be using the smallest loom to demonstrate how to make a baby hat. You may choose whichever size you want to try. Yarn - 1-2 skeins of yarn in size 5 or 6. (probably size 5) Pick colors that you love! Pick tool - this usually comes with the loom. This is used to grab the yarn. A yarn needle - also usually comes with the loom. We will use this for finishing the hat.
