1 hour per week. Students will need to work on each section in between classes. A sweater of any size has a lot of steps!Class Experience
In this class, students will continue to develop the knitting skills they learned through the classes "Knitting Class. Learn to Knit, Purl, and More, Parts 1, 2 and 3." ***Please note!*** This is NOT a beginning knitting class. It is recommended that students complete Parts 1, 2 and 3 of this series in order to be successful in this class. In this class, students will be learning the steps to make a sweater. We will be making a sweater that fits a bear that is approximately 14" tall. We will be discussing how to adapt the pattern to a larger bear, but the pattern that is written by the teacher will be for a 14" bear. This class will be set up like a workshop. Students will see a demonstration of each step, and then students will work on the step with Mrs. Borton's help. A printed pattern will be provided for the project. Week 1 - Students will learn how to size the sweater and work on the sweater front. Week 2 - Students will continue with knitting the front of the sweater and start on the back. Week 3 - Students will finish the back of the sweater and sew the front and back together at the shoulders. Students will work on the neck ribbing. Week 4 -Students will make the arms of the sweater. Week 5-6 - Students will assemble the sweater, and work on any other finishing details. LEARNER SUPPLY LIST A printed handout will be provided for the pattern. This pattern was developed by Mrs. Borton and is unique to this class! Students should pick yarn that they love in a solid color and a smooth texture! Yarn can be wool, acrylic, or a wool-acrylic blend. *A size 4 yarn and a size 7 or 8 needles would also work well for the pattern. *A size 5 yarn and size 9 or 10 needles would work well. *A cable needle is recommended for this class, but Mrs. B will be demonstrating how to do a cable WITHOUT using a cable needle. *Double point needles in the size of your regular needles. This is for doing the neck of the sweater. *Scissors *A yarn needle (These are often plastic and if you loom knit, they come with that)
Learning Goals
Students will improve their skills in knitting, learning more advanced stitches and techniques.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
