Class Experience

Beginner - Intermediate Level
Embark on a five-week exploration of light and optics, where we'll unravel the mysteries of vision and perception. Each week, students will delve into a new aspect of optics, from the behavior of light waves to the workings of lenses and mirrors. Through engaging lessons, videos, class discussions, interactive demonstrations, and multimedia presentations, students will gain a deeper understanding of how light shapes our world.

Week 1-2: Introduction to Light
Learn about the properties of light and the electromagnetic spectrum.
Explore the behavior of light through reflection and refraction.

Week 3-4: Optics and Vision
Investigate the workings of lenses, mirrors, and optical instruments.
Explore the science behind optical illusions and visual perception.

Week 5: Applications of Optics
Discuss the practical applications of optics in fields such as photography, medicine, and astronomy.
Reflect on the role of optics in shaping our understanding of the universe.

Format: One-hour online class per week, interactive discussions, demonstrations and weekly assignments.

Learning Goals

1. Students will learn about the properties of light, including its speed, and propagation in different mediums.

2. Students will be able to explain the phenomena of reflection and refraction, including the laws governing these processes and how they affect the path of light rays.

3. Students will gain knowledge of various optical instruments such as mirrors, lenses, and prisms, and understand their functions and applications in everyday life.

4. Students will learn how images are formed by mirrors and lenses, including the characteristics of different types of images (real, virtual, upright, inverted) and their properties (size, orientation, magnification).

Biography
I am a passionate, enthusiastic, and experienced teacher whose goal for the past 8 years has been to inform, inspire, and ignite passion as I explore the realm of science with secondary school students. I hold a Bachelor of Education degree in Physics and a Teaching Diploma in Mathematics and Science. I have experience teaching GCSE/CSEC Physics, IGCSE Physics, CAPE/A-Level Physics, GCSE Maths, GCSE Chemistry, and Biology, with a track record of students performing well in both internal and external exams.

Philosophy of Education
It is my belief that each child is a unique individual who needs a safe, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my aim as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that supports critical thinking, problem solving, and sharing of ideas.
I believe that in a classroom, the teacher's role is to guide and provide access to information rather than acting as the primary source of information. For students to construct knowledge, they must be provided with the opportunity to discover for themselves and practice skills in authentic situations. Providing students access to hands-on activities and allowing adequate time to use materials that reinforce the concept being taught, creates an opportunity for discovery and construction of knowledge to occur.
It is also my goal to help students to develop a deep love and respect for themselves, others, and their environment, through open sharing of ideas. When the voice of each student is heard, and environment is created where students feel free to express themselves, learning is more effective. I believe in setting fair and consistent rules and stating the importance of every activity. In doing this, students are shown respect for their presence and time and in turn they learn to respect themselves, others, and their environment.
As as an educator, one of my greatest hopes is to instill a love of learning in each student I come into contact with, as I share my own passion for learning with them. I feel there is a need for compassionate, strong, and dedicated individuals who are excited about working with children. This is because it is important that students not only receive a solid education, but also to work with someone who is aware of and sensitive to their individual needs. I strive to be such a person and will always endeavour to be the best educator that I can be.
