An eight-week exploration of fundamental mathematical concepts. Each week, we'll delve into a different area of math, from fractions and ratios to algebra and geometry. Through interactive lessons, problem-solving activities, and engaging discussions, students will strengthen their math skills and develop a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. Week 1-2: Fractions Fundamentals Understand the concept of fractions, including proper fractions, improper fractions, and mixed numbers. Learn operations with fractions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Week 3-4: Exploring Ratios and Proportions Dive into ratios, rates, and proportional relationships. Solve real-world problems involving proportions and use proportional reasoning. Week 5-6: Introduction to Algebra Explore basic algebraic concepts, including variables, expressions, and equations. Learn to solve simple algebraic equations and apply algebraic reasoning to solve problems. Week 7-8: Discovering Geometry Identify and classify geometric shapes, including polygons, circles, and solids. Calculate the perimeter, area, and volume of two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes. Format: One-hour online class per week, interactive discussions, hands-on activities, and weekly assignments. Embark on this eight-week mathematical journey, where we'll cover essential math topics, providing students with a solid mathematical foundation and fostering a love for learning mathematics.
Learning Goals
Students will:
1. Identify and classify different types of fractions, including proper fractions, improper fractions, and mixed numbers.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of ratios, rates, and proportional relationships, and apply them to solve real-world problems.
3. Develop proficiency in simplifying algebraic expressions and solving basic algebraic equations.
4. Calculate the perimeter, area, and volume of various two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes.
5. Explore the relationship between the circumference and area of circles and apply formulas to calculate these quantities.
6. Investigate the properties of three-dimensional shapes, such as prisms, pyramids, cones, and spheres, and calculate their volume.
