Class Experience

Let's Learn to Be Safe Online is a one-time class designed to foster conversations on the topic of being safe online. Developing an understanding of the basic principles of online safety is essential for independent learners to be able to move about and function safely in virtual environments. In this course, the teacher and learners will discuss potential hazards in a variety of virtual environments, including online, in virtual classrooms, in social media, and in gaming. The discussions will be age-appropriate, and learners will be encouraged to discuss their personal experiences of interacting with others in virtual environments. Discussions will focus on how learners can remain safe in virtual environments, as well as how they can recognize and avoid cyberbullying.

Each class will be independent; all discussions will take place completely during the class. No prior knowledge is required.
Learning Goals
Learners will improve their listening comprehension, vocabulary, and confidence in discussing online safety. They will improve their listening comprehension by listening to the teacher and their peers, and they will develop the ability to discuss the topic.
