Students will learn some interesting facts about ORCA (Killer) WHALES. Learners will have the opportunity to answer teacher directed questions. Then, students will learn how to draw their own ORCA (Killer) WHALE step-by-step, through directed drawing. As time allows, drawings may be colored or painted and shared with the other students via webcam. Here is a list of the Directed Drawing - Ocean Animals series: (Note: This list may be updated from time to time to reflect any changes to the subjects in this series.) - Blue Whale - Clownfish - Crab - Dolphin - Lobster - Octopus - Orca (Killer) Whale - Seahorse - Seal - Sea Otter - Sea Turtle - Stingray What is Directed Drawing? Directed Drawing is step by step instructions given to a student to help them complete a picture. When they complete the steps in order, they create a picture. Benefits of Directed Drawing: - It provides children with practice in following directions and paying attention to detail. Children need to listen and follow instructions closely while paying close attention to details or they might miss a step. - It builds confidence and increases self-esteem in students as they discover that they CAN draw. - Teaching students step-by-step how to draw something shows them that even if something looks "too hard" in the beginning, if they do it in small steps, they can do it. This translates well to ALL areas of life! (Reminds me of the saying, "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. " - Directed drawing encourages creativity. You might think that doesn't sound right. The students are all following the same directions. The pictures will all look the same. However, the goal isn’t to follow the steps so an exact copy is created. The drawings all turn out unique!
