Homework
There will be no formal assessment, but students will be encouraged to make additional Lego self-portraits to practice the skills they just learned. However, I would love to see pictures of their finished portraits after class through email via Outschool.
Assessment
There will be no formal assessment. I will just be visually checking their work between steps and at the end of class.

Class Experience

I will be teaching your child how to draw themselves as a Lego character. I will show him/her one step at a time on my whiteboard using basic lines and shapes as your child copies that same line and/ or shape onto his/ her own paper. In addition, I will give individual assistance with specifics of the Lego portraits unique to each child such as the hair style and clothing. Once completing each step, students can show me their drawing progress on camera, so I can offer suggestions and help as needed. At the end of class, I will share a link to a step-by-step guide which feature a picture of each step presented in class as well as written directions for students to review as needed when making additional Lego portraits on their own.
Learning Goals
Students will practice holding and using their pencils properly and will practice tracing which will benefit their writing skills. In addition they will learn how draw using basic shapes and lines, boosting their confidence in art, and will learn how to use crayons properly.

Supply List
Your child will need to bring a piece of blank, white paper (copy paper is fine); a wooden pencil with an eraser tip or a pencil with a separate eraser, a black pen or marker, and colored pencils and/or crayons. I recommend bring two sheets in case of mistakes as well as an extra pencil in as the first one breaks. I do not recommend using mechanical pencils as they tend to scratch paper.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hello, I’m Miss Jenny! I have a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts Education and a teaching license from the state of Indiana.

I’ve been an professional educator since 2008. In addition to teaching art for grades k-12, I have been a substitute teacher for all grades, have been a day camp director and counselor for elementary and middle school children, am certified as a professional organizer, worked as a kindergarten aide, and currently teach art and computers at a small, private school. I’ve also had training in action based learning and have trained in martial arts since 2015, earning a 1st degree black belt in taekwondo.

On Outschool, I teach flex, multi-day, one-time, and ongoing art classes to elementary grades, middle school students, and high school students. In all my classes, I teach a large variety of art projects that always incorporate art history, so students can learn to master multiple types of art media while becoming more familiar with many different art cultures, movements, and artists.

I am fun-loving and a child at heart who is totally into the science-fiction and fantasy genres, and I believe learning should be fun and personal!

The best part of teaching is the student. Every child is important, unique, and valued; so my main goal as an art teacher is to help all my students not only fall in love with art but go beyond what they first believed was their ability level all while having fun.

I would love to meet your artists in my classes!
