Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 8
Intermediate Level
This semester’s self-paced course will provide 7 different art units targeted for 7th and 8th grade students. Each unit will cover a different artist, art movement, and/ or art culture and will teach students how to manipulate various art media, both 2D and 3D, better preparing students for upper middle school art.

Once the course begins, units will be posted every 2 weeks with the final unit given a total of 3 weeks to allow students extra time as needed. Students will start each unit by learning about its art history portion. Students will then complete sketches to better review major concepts and learn how to manipulate each media before completing a final project. An instructional video will feature me modeling each step, so students can follow along and complete the sketches and art project. Sketches will be sent to me via Outschool messages, and a grade and feedback on the sketches will be given within two school days. Guides with step-by-step instructions will also be provided as a PDF, so students can print out the steps and/ or view them electronically as well while following along with the video. Photos of finished sketch examples and project examples will also be provided.

After completing each project, students will post a photo of their finished project on the class page and state one thing they like about one of the provided examples, their favorite part of their project, and the most challenging portion of the project. The project will then be graded with a provided rubric within two school days of the posting. Students will be given ungraded review activities with a Google form at the end of each unit that give automatic responses once submitted.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about seven major artists, art movements, and/ or art cultures. Students will also learn how to manipulate at grade appropriate levels various art media as described in the weekly breakdown.
