US Grade 1 - 4
In this self-paced course, elementary students will learn about the different types of clay and their uses as well as the basic ceramic techniques of slab making, using coils, making pinch pots and scoring and slipping to create clay boxes with lids, relief sculptures, bowls, and creature sculptures. They will sculpt a simple owl relief sculpture to practice making slabs for the first lesson, for the second lesson make an animal sculpture with pinch pots, construct a bowl with coils and slabs for the third lesson, and make a box with a lid and handle for the final lesson. A bonus sculpture lesson will also be provided in which students can make a friendly monster statue, practicing all techniques (slab building, coils, and pinch pots).
Learning Goals
Students will learn the basics of clay sculpting and coil and slab pot building using air-dry clay and how to paint and repair air-dry clay.

Textured Owls
Learn the different types of clay and their uses, how to make slabs and coils, and how to score and use slip to make an owl sculpture.
Lesson 2:
Clay Buddies
Learn how to make pinch pots and continue to use coils, scoring, and slipping to sculpture a creature.
Lesson 3:
Coil Bowls
Use slabs, coils, scoring, and slipping to make a bowl
Lesson 4:
Clay Boxes
Make a box with a lid and handle using all your previously learned techniques.
