Class Experience

This class is designed to help students establish and build initial skills in using ASL--and to have a ton of fun doing it!

In this 3-week series, you'll learn the following vocabulary each week, as well as additional thematic vocabulary so that you can interact in a variety of common real-world situations. Throughout the course, we will also learn about Deaf culture and conversational norms.

Week 1:
 - Fingerspell the alphabet (A-I)
 - Learn numbers 1-10

Week 2:
 - Review Week 1 vocabulary
 - Fingerspell the alphabet (J-R)
 - Learn to sign basic colors

Week 3:
 - Review all previous vocabulary
 - Fingerspell the alphabet (S-Z)
 - Learn to fingerspell your name
 - Learn basic greetings

My classes use lots of different media to keep learning fun, engaging, and effective, including breakout groups, cards, pictures, videos, song, and more. ASL is a language, and language is best learned not by memorization, but by experience, so in my class we'll try to create as many fun experiences with the language as we can so that you learn the language naturally!

My teaching style is laid back and informal - I love to interact with students, and I've designed the class to provide you with interactive experiences both with me and with your fellow learners in the class.

Hi! I'm a mom of 3 children, and I love ASL! I first saw ASL in high school, and I fell in love with it. I hold a degree in Communication Science and Disorders, during which I took ASL and was involved in the deaf community.

I believe that the best way to learn ASL is through experiencing the language, so my classes are full of videos, props, songs, and signing from Day 1! The goal of my classes is that you'll learn vocabulary and conversation skills naturally, not just by memory, but through interactive engagement with the language in a way you can understand from the beginning.

I live in the Atlanta, GA, area with my husband and 3 children, and I enjoy music, reading, and being outdoors!
