In this ongoing class, students will engage in various games and activities that cover sight words, phonological awareness, and phonics skills. These activities include singing songs, reading poems, reading sight words via PowerPoint, playing games, reading a beginning reader, and building sentences. Students will learn 4 sight words each week, learn a different sound including digraphs and diphthongs, how to blend sounds together to decode words, and how to construct sentences to become independent readers and writers. Uma the unicorn is a character who interacts with the students and the teacher throughout the lesson to help increase engagement and excitement throughout the class. Week 1- Long vowel a Week 2- Long Vowel o Week 3-Long vowel i Week 4- Long vowel u Week 5- ph digraph
Learning Goals
Students will improve their recognition of basic sight words.
Students will construct simple 3-5 word sentences.
Students will accurately decode words that follow the cvc or cvce pattern
Students will recognize digraphs and accurately represent them as one sound.Other Details

A worksheet will be provided each week. Students will need paper and a pencil.
