This is the first session of my Word Family class. In this ongoing class, learners will be introduced to 2 new word families each week. This section will last for 10 weeks. Each class will follow the same predictable pattern. 1. Introduction of new word families. 2. Practice pronunciation and spelling. 3. Practice writing. 4. Practice reading activities. 5. Check for understanding through games and participation. Not only will students improve reading and writing skills, but they will have the opportunity to communicate with a small group of learners. This will increase speaking and reading confidence. All of this will be achieved in a welcoming, fun and lively class environment! As an educator for over 20 years, I pride myself in my ability to be patient with the beginning reader. After teaching hundreds of children to read, I find that patience and a nurturing environment are two of the biggest contributing factors to success. Feel free to jump in the session at any time. If you need to skip a week, no worries! I hope to see your child in class soon! Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Laurie McCord and I have been an educator for over 20 years. My passion is teaching beginning readers the fundamentals that will lead them to a love of reading!
I hold a BA in Elementary Education and a TESOL certification. I have 20 years experience teaching in a public school setting and home tutoring. The past 4 years I have spent teaching ESL learners online. I love the opportunity it has given me to meet learners throughout my country and the world.
I believe learning should be fun, especially for young learners. Engaging, lively lessons help to grasp the attention and leave a lasting impression. My hope is that each learner can take something they've learned from class and share it with others.
I am a married mom to 3 children. Kelly just graduated college this year. She has begun her career as an athletic trainer in Indiana. Christian is a junior in college studying to be a high school English teacher. Cameron is a junior in high school and has just learned to drive. Many of the educational philosophies I hold have come from watching my own children grow and learn. Finally, I love to read and travel to new, exciting places!
I hope to meet you soon in the classroom!
