Class Experience
Hello Everyone, Are you eager to learn how to crochet? In this 5-week flex course, we will learn the basics of crochet. This is a flex class which means that we will not meet live. This will allow students to work at their own pace at a time that is suitable for them. I will show students how to complete various stitches and show them a few different ways to hold their work and their yarn. There will also be crochet challenges posted each week to help them improve their skills. There will also be a near-pod link posted on Thursdays where students will be able to interact in a variety of different crochet activities such as counting the stitches, brainstorming what they want to make and what they can turn their chains and other work into. We will also learn about different crochet abbreviations and how they are used in patterns. Each Monday I will post a video in the Outschool classroom. In each video that is posted in the classroom, I will explain how to complete each of the different skills. The last week of the course will be a special week where students can request a stitch that they want to learn. There request must be submitted no later than week 3 so I have enough time to prepare the videos demonstrating the stitch. If students do not request any stitch I will post a video about how to complete the lemon peel stitch. ***Please note that crochet terms are in US*** Class Overview Week 1: -How to make a slip knot -How to hold the yarn and hook - How to create a chain -How to create a slip stitch to secure your work and keep it from coming undone. Week 2: -How to make a single crochet -How to turn your work -How to make a double crochet Week 3: - How to make a half double crochet -How to change colors Week 4: - How to make a circle (2 different ways) and how to make the circle bigger. -How to make a circle smaller -How to use these techniques to create a ball Week 5: - Lemon peel stitch (if no requests) -Students can request a stitch they want to learn and I will post a video explaining how to complete it. -If all 6 students request a stitch I will post one video each day throughout the week. - Students must submit requests by week 3 to allow enough time for recording Student/ Classroom Interaction: If students have questions they can send me a message along with a picture so I can better help them. Students may also post questions in the classroom where other students can answer questions if they know the answer. On Thursday's a discussion topic related to crochet will be given. Students can comment and share with one another about the given topic. Students can post their progress throughout the week and I will provide feedback. It will be required for them to post a picture of their completed stitches by the end of the week (Sunday or Monday) along with a statement of what they found challenging and or what accomplishment they are proud of that week. I have listed a few examples below. I found the half double crochet challenging but I am proud that I persevered. I am proud that I improved the speed of my crocheting I am proud that I learned a new stitch. *****Along with this students will interact in the near-pod classroom. Feedback: I will respond to comments in the classroom related to questions, discussion topics as well as provide private individual feedback about their progress, once they have posted their progress for that week. I look forward to crocheting with you. Kindly, Mrs. Jessica

Supply List
1. Yarn. I suggest a yarn that is t-shirt style, acrylic, or a cotton that doesn't fray. Yarn that is fluffy or fuzzy will make it difficult to see the stitches and is not suggested for beginners 2. Crochet hooks in a few different sizes. Bigger crochet hooks that match the yarn size are usually easier for beginners. Check the yarn cover to see what hook they suggest. I suggest hooks 5mm and up 3. Scissors (to detach yarn when work is finished or if it gets knotted 4. Yarn needle for weaving in ends
