Week 1: Review Levels 1 - 6 Level 7 begins with a review of previous levels. Students will be engaged in several activities to assess what they remember and how familiar they are with previous material. We will use both hands to learn "BINGO" Week 2: Time Signature (4/4) Students will review the G major and minor 5-finger patterns and compose in treble clef during week 2. We will discuss time signatures, specifically 4/4 and learn the melody of "This Old Man." Week 3: C Major Chord In week 3, we will learn to play the C major chord in both hands. This chord will be added to "This Old Man" from Week 2. Students will also improvise in groups of four beats to reinforce the concept of 4/4 time signature. Week 4: D Minor Chord After reviewing the D major and minor 5-finger patterns, students will use thirds to build the D minor chord. This chord will be added to the song "Dogs" from Level 1. During Week 4, students will also perform for each other and engage in musical discussion. Week 5: Time Signature (3/4) Students will add chords to "Cats" from Level 1. Dr. Nathan will facilitate a discussion of the number of beats in each measure leading toward the difference between 3/4 and 4/4. Composition in the bass clef will be used to review reading in the lower register of the Grand Staff. Week 6: G Major Chord In Week 6, we will add the G major chord to "Row, Row, Row Your Boat." Students will have the opportunity to improvise LH chord rhythms for this song and/or their own RH melody. Week 7: F Major Chord After reviewing the asymmetrical hand shape of the F major 5-finger pattern, students will add the F major chord to "Hungry Little Bear." Students will also perform eighth note patterns while classmates identify the pattern. Week 8: Chord Shifts In Week 8, students will have another chance to perform for each other. Shifting from one chord to another while maintaining hand shape is an important skill that will be added to the "Congratulations Song,"

Supply List
Learners must have access to a piano or keyboard. A keyboard does not need to be full size (88-keys). Ideally it should have weighted keys, be velocity sensitive (the volume should change depending on how quickly you press the keys), and have a pedal. Visual aids for each class will be available before class begins. I recommend printing these and keeping them in a binder so that the learner can reference them both during class and throughout the week. No other materials are needed.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
