Homework
1-2 hours per week. At the end of each lesson, students will receive a practice assignment for the coming week based on what was covered in the lesson.
Assessment
Learners are assessed throughout each lesson. Feedback will be given verbally during the lesson and on the practice assignment following the lesson. As needed, videos may be added to the classroom of teacher modeling a new concept at the piano. If desired, students may also prepare for outside adjudication.

Class Experience

Private piano lessons allow the most individualized instruction for the learner. Students may have had previous piano instruction, but that is not required for this class. In the first week, I will assess the student's learning style, personality, and musical knowledge and make recommendations for books and resources. Beginning in the second week, lessons will include review of material as well as introduction of new material in a carefully sequenced, pedagogical method. Each week will conclude with specific practice goals for the coming week based on the student's achievement during the lesson. Music making will begin in the very first lesson and will grow each week as we explore new concepts.

I love helping students take the next step in their musical education, whether that is helping them learn their first piece, prepare for a competition, or polish their senior recitals as undergraduate music majors. Every student has potential, and I find it exciting to help them discover and develop it. I expect students to be engaged both during lessons and during at-home practice throughout the week. Without steady commitment, it is difficult to develop a strong pianist. Students can expect me to be creative in my teaching to make material fun and memorable as well as patient if they struggle with a new concept.
Learning Goals
The three main goals are: developing a strong technique, exploring musical artistry, and becoming fluent in standard musical notation. These goals begin in the very first lessons and continue through advanced lessons.
