Learning kanji can be a daunting task, but in this foundation-building class we'll read and write together. Get your toes wet with some easy to write kanji characters, and vocabulary words to help remember them.

Class experience

-Students will be able to read and write approximately 60 kanji, with many more words using said kanji.
-Students will be able to recognize radicals as the building blocks of kanji, in order to further their studies.
I lived in Japan for several years. During my time there I passed the N2 level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). This means that I have advanced proficiency in the Japanese language and can read and write over 1000 kanji.

I am currently in the process of obtaining an MA in Applied Linguistics, which means that I am up to date on language learning techniques, and willing to continue honing my skills. I also have a background in theatre education, which means I keep things upbeat and energetic in the classroom.
-Pencil or pen
-Paper: Notebook or graph paper recommended. For authenticity you can find Japanese writing paper - called "genkouyoushi' - online, but in order to keep class as accessible as possible I do not require it.
-Homework will be offered, but a printer is not required. Students have the option of writing their assignments on their own paper if you are unable to print.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
After the class, students will be provided with resources they can use to retain what they have learned.
