Class Experience

In this ongoing book club, I will read one of the many books authored by Jan Brett. Jan Brett is an accomplished writer and illustrator of more than fifty children's book. In a world that reminds the reader of Peter Rabbit and Beatrix Potter, Brett invites you to meet a hedgehog, a musk ox, a mouse and more. Upon completion of the book, we will discuss the topic and create an activity to accompany our reading time.

Each course stands on its own, so do not worry, the content does not build. You may join the book club at any time. This is Jan Brett official website to view for an entire book list: https://www.janbrett.com/index.html.

An example of a class is as follows: (1) Read book "The Snowy Nap" (2) Watch a video clip about the hibernation and hedgehogs and discuss the process and its importance to our planet (3) Students will color and create their hedgehog from a PDF printout (will be provided before the start of the class). Enrichment details for hibernation will be provided during class that may be completed after class.

Week of 28 April: "The Mitten"

Week of 5 May: "The Snowy Nap"

Week of 12 May: "The Hat"

Week of 19 May: "Cozy"

Once you join the book club, I will provide the specific book list and supplies for the following week, before the cancellation deadline (24 hours prior to start of class), should you decide to cancel the class. Also, feel free to offer me suggestions titles geared towards your child's interests. Students will not need the book- I will read from my copy. Supplies will vary week to week, but basic school supplies (pencil, markers, crayons, colored pencils, scissors, glue, etc. will be the basic list unless otherwise noted. Enrichment activities, while enhancing the overall student knowledge of the topic, will not be required for the book club.

Hello from Texas! Although I am currently residing in Texas, we move quite often and that has allowed me to have many different types of career experiences. I have tutored privately and through well-known organizations; taught in the public school classroom setting with a self-contained classroom (including 4th grade and Texas History); substituted and interned in private school classroom settings; instructed at the community college level (History); assisted with museum operations; and homeschooled my three munchkins. I have worked with early education all the way up to the community college level. My Bachelors is in childhood education with a Master's in American History.
