Class

Average rating:4.4Number of reviews:(55)
This is a basic overall lesson on the battle of Gettysburg.

Class experience

US Grade 5 - 8
I have been a serious student of the Civil War for years. I own and have studied multiple primary and secondary sources on the war, along with maps and field guides. I have visited the Gettysburg National Park over dozens of times, and also other battlefields of the war. I have taken part in multiple Ranger tours, and attended lectures given by some of the most highly regarded scholars on the Civil War.

This is a class about the American Civil War, focusing on the bloodiest battle of that war. Students should be prepared to understand that many soldiers died there, and also the topic of slavery will be discussed. Students should understand what a war is. I will NOT show any pictures of the deceased that were taken after the battle, but photos will show the damage to homes and buildings.
Sources will include the books Gettysburg: The First Day, Gettysburg: The Second Day, and Gettysburg: Culp's Hill and Cemetery Hill by Harry W. Pfanz. Picket's Charge At Gettysburg by James Hessler and Wayne E. Motts. Diary Of A Lady Of Gettysburg by Sarah M. Broadhead and Gettysburg A Memoir by Charles M. McCurdy. Maps of Gettysburg from Wikimedia Commons.
