In technology companies like Facebook, Google, and even Outschool, much of the things you see are made by engineers and designers. But there's another role that helps companies make products, and that is the role of the "Product Manager," a generalist position that helps make sure all the different pieces add up into a great product that people love to use. In this class, we'll give an overview of what a product manager does, some reasons why it might be an interesting role for you to consider, as well as some of the basic skills that a product manager uses in their day-to-day life - many of which are helpful even if you're not a product manager! In this 30 minute introductory class, we'll cover: - The role and responsibilities of a product manager in technology companies - A typical day-in-the-life of a product manager - What skills are useful for a product manager, and why it might be an interesting role for you - How you can practice some of the core Product Manager skills in your daily life. There will be about 15 minutes of lecture-style presentation, interspersed with opportunities for learners to share their own experiences doing product-management like activities, such as when they've brought a group of different people together to work on a problem. Because this is an introductory course, I try to get students excited about the role of a product manager using examples from products that they know and love already, such as Outschool! No prior experience necessary.
