In this class, participants learn light saber combat by exploring real, historical, Eastern and Western swordsmanship techniques combined with the potential physics of this unique fictional weapon. We will learn basic sword fighting footwork, cutting, thrusting, and blocking techniques, and forms and stances from both Eastern and Western sword fighting styles including Kenjutsu, Tai Chi, German Longsword Fencing, and other Historical European Martial Arts> Once Students build a basic foundation in these real world principles, we will discuss the way the unique physics of a light saber would effect and alter these techniques, then apply them to the seven forms of Light Saber combat found in the Star Wars Universe: Shii-Cho, Makashi, Soresu, Ataru, Shien/Djem So, Niman, and Juyo.
