Class Experience

In this six week introductory club students will be learning the fundamental basics of Tae Kwon Do blending history and movement to create a fun and fast paced class.

Each session will begin with a 5 minute history lesson on Tae Kwon Do and what this martial art represents. Then the lesson will be followed up with a brief warm up and will then transition into learning the basics that will include a variety of kicks, punches, and blocks.

I will be demonstrating basic moves and then the group will work on each one together.

Week one: What does Tae Kwon Do mean? Learning how to execute an ax kick, front kick, and upper block.

Week two: What can we learn from Tae Kwon Do? Learning how to execute a side kick, roundhouse kick, and downward block.

Week three: What are the rules of Tae Kwon Do? Learning how to execute an inner crescent and outer crescent.

Week four: How did Tae Kwon Do come to be? Learning how to execute an inner block, outer block, and a single knife hand.

Week five: Counting in Korean 1-5. Learning how to execute spear hand block, proper punch form, and a back fist punch.

Week six: Counting in Korean 6-10. This week will be open for questions from students who need clarification on any move. We will also be briefly going over each move learned over the last five weeks.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Please be aware that this club requires an adequate space for movement and the ability to be barefoot is encouraged as socks can make certain movements slippery. Also, please ensure students are well hydrated and dressed in loose fitted clothing with long hair tied back if possible in order to be able to execute the movements to the best of their abilities. Injuries in Tae Kwon Do are rare but can happen. We will make sure to stretch and warm up before learning our movements however, if any student at any time feels they need more of a stretch I will be happy to incorporate more stretches to ensure no pulled muscles occur.
Supply List
A cleared out space with adequate room to freely move is required.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
At times I will reference (but not read directly) from The State of the Art Tae Kwon Do by Master Sung Chul Whang, Master Jun Chul Whang, and Brandon Saltz.
