Class Experience

Description: This part 2 course continues where part 1 ended. Upon the completion of this course students will be able to define basic Ancient Greek vocabulary of approximately 30-40 words; reproduce paradigms of basic Ancient Greek forms; identify the grammatical forms and syntactical functions of Ancient Greek words of these nouns, adjectives, and verbs; and translate basic Ancient Greek sentences and explain their syntax; begin to compose short sentences in Ancient Greek. This course teaches Attic Greek which was used during the Classical and Hellenistic periods. Each class will introduce a new grammar concept, practice and review previous material, and discuss a cultural theme. Beyond acquiring the skills to translate Ancient Greek, students will also be learning about the culture, literature, and history of the Classical world. Their English vocabulary will improve. They will better understand English grammar and syntax. And they will build a foundation for learning other languages. This course is designed for serious students of the Ancient Greek language. While cultural themes will be discussed and the aim is to have fun while learning, studying another language, especially an ancient language, is a difficult task that takes hours of outside/independent work.

This class will use Google classroom for assignments, discussions, and other resources. The live lectures will also use Nearpod to encourage student engagement. Below is an outline for this course. Everything listed will be covered during this 10-week course, topics are subject to being moved to different weeks when needed.

NOTE: If for any reason you are not able to pay for the multi-day course all at once, please contact me to set up a payment schedule.

I love the Ancient Greek language and really anything that relates to the Greco-Roman world. I have an M.A. in Classics that emphasized pedagogy. I also have years of experience teaching Ancient Greek and Latin to a range of ages and skills levels online and in a traditional classroom. But, no matter who the student is I believe that learning should be a fun and engaging journey!
