We will learn basic nouns and verbs while learning the alphabet, structured with Greek dialogue, reading, and even singing. I will show you slides with images to make our conversations three-dimensional. We will finish with our first story, which will provide laughs and prepare us for our next course.

Week 1Lesson 1AcquaintanceThis introductory class will help us simply get acquainted with each otherWeek 2Lesson 2Basic GrammarWe learn basic nouns in masculine, feminine, and neuter, with basic verbs in first, second, and third personWeek 3Lesson 3AlphabetWe will learn the Greek alphabet, along with pronunciation.Week 4Lesson 4Verbs and Alphabet (cont.)We will solidify our knowledge of the alphabet and pronunciation, and we will learn deponent verbs in the singular, present tense.Week 5Lesson 5PoetryFew students who learn Greek learn to read poetry in meter. Here we will learn it from the beginning and make it more natural.Week 6Lesson 6Greek DerivativesWe will continue working on basic Greek reading, along with learning about the history of the language and our English derivatives.Week 7Lesson 7Story TimeHere we will read a funny story "The Doctor Comes."Week 8Lesson 8Contract VerbsHere we will see some verbs that we have already learned contract.Week 9Lesson 9-mi VerbsWe will finish the introductory course by learning one last verb pattern.
- As we read these stories, we will learn how to 1) Read a story in its historical context 2) Identify literary features to identify an author's intended themes 3) Compare the story's values with our own culture
Having studied Ancient Greek on the graduate level, I have tutored clients in it the last five years. Despite often being taught as a dead language, I have helped students bring Ancient Greek to life through learning to converse in real time and interact with a text as an ordinary language.
