Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
In this 4 week flex class, students will get an introduction to history of flight, the forces that effect flight, and how aircraft are built to sustain flight. We apply these principles to basic airplane design, as well as we will discuss how aircraft technology has greatly advanced the design and function of aircraft. This course is taught in an interactive manner, using lecture, discussion, short video clips, and models to help students understand the principle of airplane aerodynamics. Additionally, student will answer questions, engage in discussions, and interact with the teacher and the other students. This will be accomplished by using weekly questions for students to answers, as well as assignments that will require the students to interact by using the Outschool classroom and submit the assignments there as well. This will be accomplished by using airplane diagrams and design schematics,as well as writing assignments about their favorite aircraft and the features that they possess, which will be submitted through the Outschool classroom and also be used as a mechanism to further student-to-student and student-to-teacher interaction..

The course is taught in following the following schedule:

Week 1: A brief history of flight & the 4 factors that effect flight.
Week 2: Quick review of the 4 factors that effect flight, What is an airfoil, and Bernoulli's Principle.
Week 3: Airplane design and aerodynamics.
Week 4: Overflow and discussion of the future of aviation

Learning Goals

Students will identify the 4 forces that effect airplane flight, as well as learning about other concepts and ideas such airfoils, center of mass and Bernoulli's Principle.
