I welcome learners of all identities and backgrounds into my classes. I will post instructions in the outschool classroom, for labelling the piano keys. I recommend that the student has already taken my Introduction to Beginner Piano Course. My teaching style is fun and relaxed. I value each student and treat them as an individual with an individual learning style. Students will each get a chance to play what they are working on, in class. I will work both with the group , and with each student individually , as we go along , so that no one falls behind. My goal is to give each student the opportunity to experience playing music and how music is a form of self expression. The students will learn from watching me , as well as watching each other play. The instruction will include auditory , visual and hands on methods, to cater to different learning styles.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the basic symbols used in standard musical notation , what they are for and what they are called.
Students will be able to play some simple music , by reading the notation.
They will become familiar with keeping a steady beat, while playing on the piano.
The students will reduce any anxiety they may have about reading piano music, and they will realize their capability for learning to read music.
The student will feel successful , as they learn this method of learning to read music.
The students will be able to read simple songs, in 4/4 time.
The students will prepare for the next level of this course, and become ready to move forward.
The students will learn to recognize the notes C, D, E, F and G in treble clef.
They will practice proper hand position and seating position.
