Homework
1-2 hours per week. I would like students to practice 10-15 minutes a day, 5 days a week. This is the only way to progress quickly. I ask that you use a practice sheet to keep track of the time each day. Assessment
Informal assessment. I will let the parent know how your learner is progressing.

Class Experience

In this class, the students will begin with the basics of piano, with the characters of Beethoven Bear and Mozart Mouse. Also, as the weeks progress, they will learn more musical concepts and continually build their confidence. I need a parent in the class with their student to keep them on task and to help them with various activities. This class is for the young child who will learn keyboard awareness and rhythmic awareness, learn simple songs and basic musical terms. I will be interacting with them and watching each one of them play the assigned part and checking for understanding, throughout the lessons.

Week 1: Proper Sitting Position at the Piano, Low & High Sounds, Moving Up the Keyboard
Week 2: Moving Down the Keyboard, Loud & Soft Sounds, Finger numbers for both right and left hands
Week 3: 2 Black Keys, Quarter Note, Bar Lines, Left Hand Walking, Right hand Marching
Week 4: 3 Black Keys, Quarter Rest, A Bear's Song
Week 5: Review Quarter Note and Quarter Rest, A Mouse's Melody, Start E-I-E-I-O!
Week 6: Continue E-I-E-I-O and Start On MacDonald's Farm, Review Musical terms
Week 7: E-I-E-I-0 review, On MacDonald's Farm, Rockin Pony Ride with Left Hand
Week 8: Down We Go, Finding D on the Keyboard and The D Song.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have taught children preschool through high school for over 25 years. I have a Bachelor's in Music Education with an emphasis in voice, and have played piano since I was 9 years old. I enjoyed accompanying many of my fellow Music majors for their juries (finals) in college. Knowing the basics gives children the confidence to pursue their favorite instrument and that's an amazing gift. I am patient and encouraging and love to engage with my students in a very positive way. I look forward to teaching your child.
