Medieval Sword Fencing like its 1399! Explore the foundation of Knightly fencing technique using balance, footwork, and six beginner cuts. Bring your Nerf sword, LARP sword, Lightsaber, PVC pipe, wood sword, or even French grip epee.

Class experience

2. Practice Passing Steps.
3. Demonstrate 6 basic cuts using shoulder, elbow, and wrist in unison.
4. Practice keeping the edge aligned toward the target.
5. Combine steps with cuts.

METAL SWORDS ARE FORBIDDEN IN CLASS, especially sharp swords (with the exception of olympic fencing swords with appropriately safe tips)
RECOMMENDED SWORDS:
One handed medieval style LARP Sword
Rattan stick between 24 and 30 inches in length
Trainer sword waster
Rubber medieval style training dagger
PEX or PVC pipe sword (one handed)
Boffer sword
Lightsaber

Water bottle
Comfortable clothing for vigorous activity

Note to Parents: Even light swords will feel heavy during class. Do not select a sword which exceeds over one pound unless student is over 13 years old and physically strong. This is a P.E. class with lots of clear space needed. Students will be swinging swords in this class while taking steps. Please make sure the classroom area is free of obstructions (ie. tables, tv, appliances, ceiling fans, light bulbs, pets, siblings, etc.) and that the sword in use is either not long enough to hit the ceiling or the ceiling is high enough so your student can focus on technique without hitting it. Also note METAL SWORDS ARE FORBIDDEN IN CLASS, especially sharp swords with the exception of olympic fencing swords with appropriately safe tips. As per the description, any object which can be a safe analog to a real sword is appropriate in class including but not limited to Nerf sword, LARP sword, wooden stick, lightsaber, pvc or PEX pipe, non metallic training dagger, sword waster (made for specific sword training) or indoor sword trainer. Even "knife hands" are acceptable in the beginners class. Because this training takes place most likely indoors a short version of a one handed sword is best. Less than 30 inches or 76 cm is recommended.
