During this class, students will learn how to craft an immersive setting for fictional stories using mood, sensory details, and figurative language. We will read excerpts from a magical realism short story that takes place in Oaxaca, Mexico, making sure to hone in on details about the setting. Finally, students will write their own descriptive passages about the setting of a magical realism story. As the teacher, I will guide students as they work through the writing process. First they will brainstorm ideas, draft their passages, edit and revise their drafts, and finally share their work. By the end of class, students will have a strong descriptive paragraph to feel proud of.
Learning Goals
Students will explain the role of setting in the literary genre 'magical realism.'Students will use sensory details, figurative language, and mood to create an immersive setting for a descriptive paragraph.Other Details
