Homework
1 hour per week. Participants will receive copies of "Interview Tips" and sample "Interview Questions" that will help them prepare for an upcoming interview. Participants will have opportunities to practice their responses to sample interview questions in class.

Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
Beginner - Advanced Level
Prepare to ace your interview for a school, job, scholarship, or organization with confidence!  In this interactive class, teens learn essential interview skills such as how to answer common questions, highlight their strengths, and make a positive first impression. Led by Dr. Julie Connor, an experienced hiring coach, interview consultant, and TED speaker, this class empowers teens with tools to succeed in interviews, leadership roles, and scholarship applications.

In this interview skills class for teens, participants will:

✅ Confidently introduce themselves in a professional manner.
✅ Respond to interview questions in ways that highlight their unique skills and talents.
✅ Answer common and tricky interview questions with ease.
✅ Use strong verbal and nonverbal communication to reflect positive listening skills.
✅ Clearly explain short-term and long-term goals.
✅ Manage interview anxiety and nervousness with calm and poise.
✅ Master professional courtesy and communication to gain a competitive edge.

Teens learn basic communication skills required to successfully navigate an interview situation with positive self-assurance.  They will also practice one-on-one scenarios with the instructor and students in the class.

Dr. Julie Connor, Ed.D., teaches interview skills to middle school, high school, and college students.  She also shares her professional public speaking expertise and instructional experience as an Outschool public speaking teacher to guide teens through proven strategies to feel prepared and confident in any interview setting.

Learning Goals

Participants will confidently introduce themselves to an interviewer:  Learn how to make a strong and positive first impression.
Respond to interview questions in ways that highlight their unique strengths, skills, and talents:  Effectively communicate skills and experiences to stand out from other candidates.

Other Details

Pre-Requisites
Participants must have basic English reading and speaking skills. Participants must be able to respond to basic interview questions in English and in complete sentences.
Supply List
Participants will find it valuable to bring something to write on (paper, notebook, etc.) and something to write with to class.

Copies of "Interview Tips" and sample "Interview Questions" discussed during the interview class will be provided after the session.  This will help teens prepare for an upcoming interview.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
