In this 4-day course, students with a foundation in the Japanese language will learn more about the history and culture while becoming more confident reading and speaking in the language. Classes will be divided in half with the first 25 minutes being dedicated to learning additional language and practicing listening and reading comprehension. The second 25 minutes will be spent learning more about the history and culture of Japan. Students will build upon their fundamental knowledge to feel more comfortable and confident communicating in Japanese. This course will also allow older learners a comfortable transition to the Asobi ni ikou yo! Japanese Hang-Out course. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Japanese Course Offerings: -Beginner Japanese: Intro to Language and Culture I (ages 8-12)* -Beginner Japanese: Intro to Language and Culture II (ages 13-17) -Intermediate Japanese: Reading and Speaking I (ages 8-12) -Asobi ni ikou yo!: Japanese Hang-Out (ages 10-14) *You are currently reading about this course ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Day One: -Standard Greetings -Self-Introductions -Review of Hiragana -Introduction to numbers and counting -A brief history of Japan Day Two: -Review of Katakana -How to ask for help -Introduction to money -Japanese Pop Culture: Anime, Music, and Manga Day Three: -Introduction to Kanji -Japanese Folklore and Mythology -Classical Japanese calligraphy and writing Day Four: -Additional Kanji practice -Reading signs in Japanese -Japanese manners and how to be a respectful traveler -Japanese geography After this course, students should feel more comfortable speaking, listening, and reading in Japanese. They will feel prepared to travel to Japan or be able to understand more of anime and manga without translations. Prior to this course, students should have a basic understanding of the alphabets and sentence structure of Japanese writing and speech.
Learning Goals
Learners will build upon their knowledge of Japanese and learn additional phrases, Japanese numbers and a few of the different ways they are used (i.e. money, counting people, counting items), how to ask for help or get assistance, points of interest in Japanese history and culture, and an introduction to Kanji.

I studied the language and culture for all four years of my bachelor’s degree and was the official tutor for Japanese for my college. I studied abroad in Japan in 2018, and I have since tutored Japanese online and been a personal teacher for students in Japanese.
