Class Experience
This class offers a multisensory approach to improving a learner's reading skills. In the first class, students are assessed on phoneme sounds, spelling sounds, blending sounds together, and sight words. The assessment is to help then design a learner's individualized needs which can then be met in the classes that follow. Classes following the assessment will include a review of letters and sounds the learner already knows/has been taught. Then the learner is taught a new sound which will include writing the letter(s) that make that sound, reading words and sentences with that sound, and spelling words with that sound. Following the introduction to the new sound, a learner will then read a passage that has words that include the new sound that was taught. We will also discuss what was read. After that students will practice spelling words that include sounds that the student already knows or was taught in previous lessons. Then students are asked to write a few dictated sentences. Then to conclude the lesson there is a review of what was taught. Sometimes games may be played throughout lessons to enhance a student's learning. Students will write either on paper or on a whiteboard to show me what they are writing.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Heidi and I am so excited to teach on Outschool!
I have been a licensed intervention specialist for the past 7 years and was a Title 1 math tutor for one year. I received my Masters in Special Education from Miami University and my Bachelors of Science in Health Sciences from the University of Cincinnati. I have experience working with students in grade K-8. I also have experience working with students with learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, and anxiety. I've taught whole group, small group, as well as one-on-one lessons. I love being a teacher and helping kids ignite their passion for learning! I love making learning engaging and exciting. I believe that all students learn differently which is why I like to make classes individualized to help meet learner needs. My favorite moment of teaching is the “lightbulb” moment, which is when learners have that moment of understanding and you can hear and see their excitement. I love celebrating student success and providing encouragement for them.
A fun fact is I have two young kids and I love going on fun adventures with them!
I look forward to teaching your child and promote a love of learning!
