Class Experience

Do you like to draw insects? This is the right class for you then!

During each lesson, I will lead students in a directed, or step-by-step, drawing to create their own unique drawings you will love! This process will allow students to build their drawing confidence and leave with full-page images to color and add details to after class.

We will draw as many of the listed insects as allowed by time.

All animal drawings will be created in a cartoon style and allow for student input along the way.

Animals we will draw in this class may include, but are not limited to:
-Butterfly
-Caterpillar
-Grasshopper
-Bee
-Ant
-Ladybug
-Snail
-Dragonfly
-Walking Stick
-Praying Mantis

In a typical class, we will be able to draw between four and seven insects.
Learning Goals
Students will follow step by step directions to create insect drawings.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, I’m Alyssa Roetheli, and I am thrilled to be here at Outschool!

First, I would like to share a little bit about my educational background with you, so you can be confident I am a highly qualified teacher that will offer the best to your student. I graduated from Texas State University with a degree in Elementary Education in 2008. While teaching 4th grade I also worked to earn my master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the same university.
After 6 years of 4th grade, I left the classroom to write curriculum full time. While not being in the classroom, writing curriculum has kept me steeped in the standards and educational best practice.

Currently, I am continuing to write curriculum and working towards a second master’s degree in library and information studies from Texas Woman’s University. While I love what I do currently, I love the connection I make with individual learners and seek to make your students feel challenged and excited about learning.

My classes are varied and include read alouds with discussions, gamified review, and deep content practice for reading, math, and social studies. I hold a current Texas teaching certificate for early childhood through 4th grade with an English as a second language endorsement and enjoy working with all grade levels.

I work to make every class engaging and enjoyable while encouraging students to think deeply about their learning. I want students to want to be in class with me! I tell lots of corny jokes and enjoy using humor to connect and build class community.

What time do ducks wake up? At the quack of dawn!

When I am not here I enjoy hiking, reading, quilting, and visiting new places. I have a cat named Birdie who will make occasional guest appearances, so keep an eye out for her.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me a bit, and I look forward to working with your students and helping them grow!
