Beginner - Intermediate Level
(Please note one 1:1 session of 20 minutes is included in the course fee) This is the second of 4 sessions for year-long French content instruction, but offered bi-weekly over 5 weeks. Each class there will be a different French topic or grammar concept covered permitting new French speakers to continue with new material every week. Class content will be supported video materials and homework to support learning The lessons in the flipped classroom model will between 20-30 minutes in addition to LIVE class time. Learners will have the opportunity to practice their skills in class weekly. Some of the topics to be covered include: Introduction to Immersive French 2 (Activity - record a 1 minute to introduce yourself to the teacher by sharing the following: - Name - Why you want to learn French? - What do you most want to learn in this class? - How do you plan on using your French? - What's one thing you learned most in Immersive French 1? 2. Lesson One: Parts of the house (Activity: Learners will learn the different rooms and parts of the house. After watching the video learners will illustrate two different parts of their house using the new vocabulary they have learned either by video or written and shared in the classroom. 3. Lesson Two: Les animaux domestiques (Animals) (Activity: In this lesson, we will learn new vocabulary related to a variety of domestic and wild animals. Learners will practice using the activities in the assigned workbook for Immersive French along with some Kahoot and worksheet activities. The Kahoot challenge game will be with other flex class learners to increase engagement. 4. Lesson Three: Les couleurs (Colors) & Les articles (Activity: In this lesson, learners practice the different colours and how to say them when they in the masculine and feminine form. Learners practice using the colours they have learned to take vocabulary from one of the previous units to describe both the item and the colours. Learner will use the worksheets provided or draw their chosen items to share in the class either video or written. 5. Lesson Four: French adjectives, Countries of the World & French Accents (Activity: In this lesson, learners practice using French adjectives to describe a variety of items while also learning how to say various countries around the world. Learners will participate in an interactive activity to demonstrate their knowledge by uploading a video them identifying the various flags and describing the colours or using adjectives to describe their family or use vocabulary previously learned in units to actively with the class. 6. Lesson Five: Seasons and weather (Activity: Learner will practice doing weather forecast for their favorite country or city using the weather vocabulary used in the lesson. Learners will prepare their presentation as a weather anchor on TV ) 7. Lesson Six: Seven ways to construct a sentence in French (Activity: Learners watch a 2 part video to learn about the seven ways to create sentences in French. Using the sentence frames, learner will practice and submit 3 types to speak/share in class through a written or video post. 8. Lesson Seven: Clothing Learners will practice describing the clothing they wear in different seasons and their favourite clothing using descriptive words we have learned in class with colours, adjectives. 9. Lesson Eight: Food and Drinks Learners will learn different types of food and drink and will practice asking to the food at grocery story or restaurant sharing the foods they like and do not like using the negative form in French (Activity: Interactive activity either video or written to evaluate overall learning comprehension) 10. Lesson Nine: What are you eating using question words (Activity Learners will learn the different types of ways to ask questions in French including formal and casual to place an order at a fast food restaurant or formal dining. Learners practice with restaurant script and either compose a video with their answers or provide written responses to complete the script). 10. Lesson Ten: Introduction to passé composé (past tense) (Activity Learners will learn how to share their ideas and thoughts about different things that happened to them in the previous week and will work to express themselves in French using the past tense. Learners can share in video format and/or in written sentences. Learners who have previous French experience but would like to improve their verb skills would be suitable for this course. It is also suitable for new learners to prepare for other courses offered by Teacher Michelle like Yes, I Speak French (Ongoing) This accelerated class provides learners with the opportunity to learn at a faster pace and put learning into immediate action bi-weekly. One 20 minute 1:1 may be booked at a mutually agreeable time for additional support over the course of the 10 week program. This 1:1 session is included in the class fee.

I 've taught consistently on the Outschool platform since 2020 with my primary focus on French instruction for all levels. I offer 1:1 classes, group class learning with Immersive French and conversational classes. Teaching French is what I love to do and I will bring warmth, enthusiasm and fun to the classroom with an opportunity for students to interact, learn and feel comfortable as we learn.
During day, my role as community relations leader in healthcare brings me the joy and opportunity to teach, mentor and see learners of all ages develop every day. I look forward to offering leadership classes in the near future.
I've taught well over 3,500 English & French classes. My path to French started in kindergarten as a child in French Immersion. I eventually pursued my Honours Bachelor's degree in French Studies and Communications. I have spoken French for over 25 years. I am fully bilingual and have tutored all ages -- from children to adults. I also hold my TESOL certification.
My experience is varied and allows me to bring well-rounded perspective from sports and fitness, hospitality, broadcast media, non-profit and healthcare. I will bring this perspective to my lessons to help students apply and learn new things.
