Students will write a 5 paragraph essay on the topic of their choice. Including introduction, conclusion, and 3 topics.
Class experience
US Grade 4 - 7
This class is intended to build on Prior IEW experience (at least through Unit 4) However many students without prior IEW experience are able to jump in after watching a brief overview video I provide. We will be building on the foundations of Key Word Outlining. In addition, students will be required to incorporate all Stylistic Techniques learned in other classes and students will be taught new Elements of Style. Students will complete 1 five-paragraph essay on a topic of their choice. The goal is that students will have learned how to think through a larger topic and break it down into smaller subtopics making it easier to write about. Have a clear understanding of the elements of an introduction and conclusion. Via a video lesson, (Please note there are no live classes) I will introduce the new concepts. I will demonstrate new concepts by completing a sample for the class. The student will then chose a topic of their choice for their assignment. During the writing process, teacher-student discussion will ensure that the student is on track and feeling confident in their writing. Discussion topics and questions will be used to reinforce the concepts presented. Students will have an opportunity for work-sharing with their peers.
I love what IEW does for student's writing and confidence. It gives them a clear rubric for what is expected. My own children have been through IEW 3 times each! I taught IEW in a classroom setting for 6 years instructing students and coaching parents. I have expanded my teaching to the online platform and love connecting and encouraging a diverse group of students.
Homework Offered
1 -2 hours of writing after each session depending on students abilities1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
