US Grade 4 - 6
The Nose Tree is the first grammar level of 6 levels in IEW. This is second part, weeks 16-30. After teaching my own children English grammar, I have found Fix It! Grammar to be the easiest and practical way for children to grasp the concepts of English. Students will learn: Week 16: Quotation Marks/Capitalization Week 17/18: Who/Which Clause and Review Week 19: Apostrophe Contraction Week 20: Quotation Marks/Capitalization Week 21: Adverb Clause Week 22: Verbs Week 23: Numbers Week 24: Adjectives/Adverbs Week 25: Prepositions Week 26: Apostrophe contraction/Punctuation Week 27: Adverb Clauses Week 28: Quotations and Capitalization Week 29: Coordinating Conjunctions Week 30: Review It! The lesson are structured using 5 easy steps: 1. Learn it! 2. Read it! 3. Mark it! 4. Fix it! 5. Rewrite it! Each week we will learn the lesson first, read the sentence, mark in the sentence what the students learned, fix the sentence, then rewrite that sentence either in their books or in a notebook. Students will also learn vocabulary words each class that we will look up definitions and write in their book. Students will need to purchase the book: https://iew.com/schools/shop/products/fix-it%E2%84%A2-grammar-level-1-nose-tree-student-book In addition, student will need a dictionary or any means to help define vocabulary words learned in class. Student should be prepared in class with their Nose Tree book, pen or pencil, a notebook, dictionary (paper or digital), and a smile! I will use slides as well as the Zoom whiteboard in which students can help fix the sentences and identify parts of speech. Students may also read the sentences. When time allows, we will play grammar games to reinforce what was learned in class. In each class, I will do the first sentence with the students. If there is extra time, we will do more together in class. Otherwise, the rest of the sentences and defining vocabulary words will be for homework. This course is advised by IEW to begin in grade 3 at the earliest. It also great for beginning grammar students or students who need more help and reinforcement with grammar structure.
Learning Goals
Students will learn and improve on their understanding of grammar by utilizing literature and shorter but effective lessons.
Students will also improve on their handwriting skills as they rewrite the sentences that are fixed throughout the course.
