Welcome to Part 1 of my fun two-part series, Adventures in Writing! As we learn together, students will learn how to correctly take notes, summarize narrative stories, write from pictures, compile research reports, and compose creative essays. I'm looking forward to meeting you all! Over the course of the year, students will dive into a wide variety of wonderfully engaging topics such as Roman hoplites, tornadoes, and the daring explorations of Leif Eriksson. Using the Structure and Style writing method, this theme-based curriculum makes learning to write an adventure. The required book for this course is the Adventures in Writing: Student Book Only. Additionally, it is recommended to have a 3-ring binder, file folders, and envelopes or a ziplock bag for vocabulary cards to stay organized. Each week, we will learn and review new vocabulary words. Throughout the 2-part, full-year course, we will incorporate various stylistic techniques such as: -ly adverbs, who-which clauses, strong verbs, because clauses, quality adjectives, and various sentence openers. Homework will be assigned weekly and will change weekly. Students are required to upload their completed homework into the classroom before the next class.
Learning Goals
Students will take notes, summarize narrative stories, write from pictures, compile mini research reports, and compose creative essays.

Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from North Carolina State University
It's lovely to meet you! I hold a Bachelor's degree from North Carolina State University, and bring a unique educational background, having been homeschooled from Kindergarten through 12th grade. This experience has equipped me with a solid foundation in creative and effective writing techniques. For the past six years, I have passionately taught writing to K-12 students, helping them find their voice in both English and Spanish. My diverse teaching experience allows me to connect with students and make learning an engaging adventure.
