Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Beginner Level
Hola!

Did you know that Spanish is the second-most spoken language in the world?

This immersive class is for beginners. I will teach sentences in Spanish to your children; however, I will be explaining some terms in English as well.

As this is an ongoing course, the content of these classes should be accessible to new learners who join in any given week.

My goal is for your child to have fun while they learn a new language. I can't wait to see them in my class!

Topics Covered

Monthly Assessments
Once a month, we will have an in-class assessment to evaluate the students' progress. These live assessments will help ensure they understand the material and can use it in practical situations.

In the first week of our Spanish course, students will be introduced to the basics of the language, beginning with the Spanish alphabet and vowels. This foundation is crucial as it sets the stage for accurate pronunciation and comprehension. By the end of the week, students will be familiar with how to greet each other in Spanish, ensuring they feel comfortable with basic introductions.

The second week will focus on reinforcing the alphabet and introductions. Additionally, students will learn to count from 1 to 20 in Spanish, practicing pronunciation to build their confidence in speaking. They will also be introduced to basic pronouns, which are essential for forming simple sentences.

During the third week, students will expand their number knowledge to 50, continuing to practice pronunciation. They will delve deeper into the use of pronouns in conversation, which will help them in constructing sentences. This week will also introduce the verb "ser," one of the fundamental verbs in Spanish. At the end of the week, Test 1 will be assigned to assess their understanding so far.

In the fourth week, we will review for Test 1, focusing on the verb "ser" and its uses. Students will also revisit pronouns to solidify their grasp. The introduction of the verb "estar" will highlight the differences between "ser" and "estar," both of which mean "to be" but are used in different contexts.

The fifth week will further explore the differences between "ser" and "estar," helping students understand their distinct applications. They will also learn the conjugation of -AR verbs, and review numbers from 1 to 50. This comprehensive review ensures that students are prepared for more complex sentence structures.

In the sixth week, students will continue to differentiate between "ser" and "estar" while learning to conjugate -ER verbs. We will introduce the "El León y El Armadillo" book, an engaging story that will help reinforce vocabulary and grammar through context.

Week seven will involve reviewing the book "El León y El Armadillo" and continuing to practice the conjugation of -AR and -ER verbs. Students will have another review of "ser" and "estar" to ensure they understand these critical verbs before Test 2 is assigned.

The eighth week will start with a review for Test 2, covering "ser" vs. "estar," -AR and -ER verb conjugations, and an introduction to -IR verbs. Students will begin learning how to conjugate AR, ER, and IR verbs, which will be essential for creating more complex sentences.

In the ninth and tenth weeks, we will review the conjugation of AR, ER, and IR verbs while introducing vocabulary related to family. This will provide students with practical language skills for everyday conversations. Repeated practice and review sessions will solidify their understanding.

Weeks eleven and twelve will continue to focus on verb conjugations and family vocabulary, ensuring that students are confident in their ability to use these in conversation. The review of "El León y El Armadillo" will help contextualize their learning, making the language more relatable and memorable.

In the thirteenth week, students will review all verb conjugations and family vocabulary while reinforcing their understanding of "ser" and "estar." This comprehensive review prepares them for the final test. Test 3 will be assigned to assess their overall progress and understanding.

The fourteenth week will not have any classes scheduled, allowing students time to reflect on what they have learned and prepare for the final review. The last class will be a celebration of their achievements, where we will review the course content one last time, ensuring that students leave with a solid foundation in basic Spanish.
