Class Experience

This class will cover the history of the early Christian Church from the split with Judaism to the Council of Nicea in 325 A.D. The class will begin with an exploration of 1st century Judaism and 1st century Greek Philosophy and from there trace how the early church fathers formed their identity over and against Jewish and Greek thought. From there we will explore the second-century debates over the person/Godhood of Jesus and then transition into the debates surrounding the Arian Controversy and the Council of Nicea.

Please keep in mind that this class will be taught from a historical perspective and not a religious perspective. We will cover the events which happened, as well as why they happened, and not their religious significance.
