"Who was the greatest military commander of all time?" In this class students will investigate the decision-making process and leadership skills of commanders throughout history in an effort to determine which general deserves the title as the "greatest". We will approach each class focusing upon commanders across the three levels of war: tactical, operational, and strategic. - Students will learn to use primary and secondary sources as evidence to assess a historical criteria. Students will learn about the Imperatives of Command as a means of evaluating military leaders. Students will learn about the Principles of War as a means to evaluate battles, campaigns and wars. Students will gain a better understanding how military decisions are made under time pressure and uncertainty. Students will learn about the important factors involved in making military decisions. Students will learn about change and continuity concerning the art of command. Students will learn about what made the commander "tick", how he approached problem solving with critical and creative thinking. Students will learn how to compare and contrast across time periods.
Military History has been my passion since I was a young boy. It is the reason why I studied history at university and went on to earn a Master's Degree in Military History (Land Warfare) from American Military University.

This is a class about Military History, wars, battles and the decisions of commanders with often had terrible consequences.
I will be referencing, quoting, and encouraging the reading of many renown Military Historians: David Chandler, J.F.C. Fuller, B.H. Liddell Hart, Hans Delbruck....to name a few. These sources will be presented to students as evidence to use for evaluation.
