Assessment
Although, I may learn important information about your learner during this class, this is not a formal assessment. The purpose of this class is for the learner to become comfortable with me.Class Experience
Are you considering taking a class or one-on-one tutoring, but want to be sure that the teacher is a good fit for your child? Here is a great opportunity for your child to meet with me one-on-one. The session is tailored specifically to your child's age and interests. We will start with a "Show and Tell" time. This is a great way for your child to become comfortable and to "break the ice." Next, I will use information (provided by you beforehand) to engage your child in conversation, and even a little playtime. For example, if your daughter loves Elsa, she can make it "snow" on my side of the screen! If I know that your son loves bugs, I can plan to borrow a praying mantis or other bug from the bug lover in my home (given enough time in advance). We will have lots of fun together! If your child loves music, we can include a song. NOTES: Special Interests: In your welcome email, you will be asked to provide information about your child's favorite things. This information will help me to guide our conversation. Show and Tell (optional): Some children may be uneasy meeting a new person (especially online). They may find it comforting to have a stuffed animal, favorite toy, or pet with them. This also provides a perfect icebreaker to get our conversation going! Preparing for class: If your child uses an AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) device, it will be helpful if the speaker is close to the microphone that you will be using for Zoom. This will help me to clearly hear your child's communication. Thank you! If your child has any specific fears, or is very sensitive, please let me know. For example, I often use a toy shark game in which the child tells me which teeth to press down until the shark bites me. Some sensitive children may not like this game. I look forward to meeting your learner!
