Lessons are customized for your child.

I have been teaching for over 30 years. I have been teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) for more than 3 years. I understand that every learner is different. I adapt each class to the student's specific needs. For example, beginner students may need the teacher to speak very slowly. Other, more advanced students may prefer for the teacher to speak at a normal pace. I use props, pictures, and TPR (gestures) as needed to help the students understand the meanings of words.

At the beginning of class, we will introduce ourselves. If the student doesn't know what to say, don't worry! I will patiently guide and help. Here are some of the questions you can expect:

"What's your name?"
"How old are you?"
"Where do you live?" (name of country)

Next, we will learn new vocabulary words. I love to use props and pictures to help students understand! I show the word and say it for the student. The student then repeats the word. We will practice using the word in complete sentences, based on the student's ability.

Sometimes, we will learn a grammar rule. We will practice using the rule.

Next, we will practice reading. I will provide the reading materials.

Throughout class, we will practice conversational English. For absolute beginners and younger students, I model using puppets. I tell the student exactly what to say, one word at a time.

For older or more advanced students, I ask questions, such as:

"Do you have a brother or sister?"
"Do you have a pet?"
"What is your favorite sport?"

Throughout class, I patiently correct pronunciation. My goal is to help each student to speak naturally, with very little accent.

If we have time, we may sing songs or play games as a fun way to practice English.

Please note: Parents may sit nearby (offscreen) to watch. However, it is best for each student to answer the teacher independently. Students do not make good progress when other people tell the answers to them.
